Today, unlike usual, I'm not going to prepare a dish, but rather a very special sauce, which we use in many dishes so that they are very creamy and of course very tasty. I'm referring to béchamel sauce.
So without further ado, I will explain how to make béchamel sauce quickly and easily.
But before we start, let’s learn what béchamel sauce is and what it’s used for.

Béchamel sauce is a classic French white sauce. It is made with butter, flour, and milk, and is often used in dishes like macaroni and cheese or lasagna.
But what about bechamel sauce in Brazil? Believe it or not, bechamel sauce has been a part of Brazilian cuisine for centuries! In fact, the first bechamel sauce recipe was created in Brazil in 1735.
Since then, béchamel sauce has become an essential ingredient in many Brazilian dishes. You can find it in everything from soups to desserts – including the brigadier!
That's right, the white cream brigadeiro is made with bechamel sauce. And it's delicious!
Preparation of Béchamel Sauce
As I said before, béchamel sauce is very easy to make, as we only need 4 ingredients, which are:
- Butter
- Wheat flour
- Milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Water
Without further ado, let’s start preparing this recipe.
In first place, In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat, then add the wheat flour and then the hot milk. Continue stirring until it starts to boil without letting it gain color.
Second, boil for approximately 10 minutes on low heat to cook the wheat flour.
Third, finally remove from heat and season with salt and pepper to taste. Then set aside for future use.
Now that the béchamel sauce is prepared, you can use it in a variety of recipes, your imagination is the limit!
Bechamel sauce
INGREDIENTS
- 50 g of butter
- 40 g of wheat flour
- 400 ml of milk
- Salt and black pepper to taste
STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS
- Melt the butter over low heat, add the wheat flour and then the hot milk, stirring constantly until it boils without letting it gain color.
- Let it boil for 10 min. over very low heat to cook the flour.
- Remove from heat, and season with salt and pepper.
